Simulation Engineer R&D

For our international R&D Centre in Enschede (The Netherlands) we are looking for a new colleague to join our R&D Team.

Research and Development to create new and high qualified products, is the fundamental base of VESUVIUS's strategy. Within Enschede we have been able to create an environment where R&D specialists get all the freedom and opportunities to come up with new ideas to meet the increasing performance, environmental demands of the market and the next generation foundry supplies and processes. Part of our specialisms are: Binders, Coatings, Metals, Filters and Feeding Systems all working together to drive innovation within the foundry business.


The job holder will bring a new set of skills to the Foundry Technologies R&D team to deliver high quality simulation results. She/he will build the CFD capabilities in the R&D team supporting scientists and engineers in various projects. Development and optimisation of material parameters of new products to deliver reliable simulation results will be part of the job. Therefore, data acquired in the R&D lab and test foundry will be used as reference.
In addition, she/he will be the interface to the VESUVIUS simulation teams that are focused on customer support.

  • Simulation and optimization of powder flow process for internal and external customer
  • Develop optimized dataset of products and materials
  • Evaluate simulation results in comparison with experimental results
  • Optimization of process parameters
  • Ensure the simulation methods are efficient and appropriate to the required result.
  • Extend our technical understanding of CFD simulation
  • First degree in Engineering / Physics or other relevant discipline. Postgraduate degree (MSc. minimum) in a relevant subject.
  • Sound experience in computational fluid dynamics.
  • Experienced with CAD software
  • Knowledge of MAGMASOFT software is an advantage.
  • Experience of delivering objectives against deadlines and cost budgets. Ability to work as a member of larger European or international R&D teams.
  • Sound practical skills and ability to work on real models to verify simulation results.
  • Self-starter, well-motivated, capable of working with a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving and the ability to think beyond current boundaries.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluent in English (written and spoken), good written and spoken German or Dutch is a benefit.
  • Ability to demonstrate a basic understanding of statistical techniques, computer literate, with basic programming skills and a working knowledge of higher level mathematics would be advantageous.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
