Manager Quality Control (M/V)

An innovative people manager that can effectively lead our Quality Control Team!

The Manager Quality Control is responsible for leading execution and improvement of the processes within the chemical-, in-process-, microbiological- and physical laboratories, following the company and legal standards such that the (product) quality, safety and hygiene follows the internal and external (legal) standards and meets the demands for release. 

Main duties and responsibilities
Quality Control

  • Implements and delivers raw material sampling, test results, sample disposition and documentation in accordance with standard procedures, QCP and EHS-regulations, within stated time, costs and as agreed with Planning, Production, R&D and QA.
  • Manages and stimulates the execution and correct implementation, improvement and maintenance of the Quality and EHS-standards to ensure adequate quality and safe working conditions.
  • Reports emergencies and (near)-accidents and is for takes corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.
  • Responsible for and manages the department (financial) budget, reviews departmental expenses and reports; takes corrective actions as needed.
  • Manages Third Party laboratories


  • Supervises, supports and implements efficient testing strategies and new equipment and methods and builds alignment with Global Quality Control policies and projects.
  • Initiates, reviews and analyses global and local Method Change Control and Methods Validations.
  • Initiates improvements or corrective actions by setting goals and allocating or ensuring proper resources to address the issue.
  • Represents Quality Control Nijmegen within Global QA to initiate, implement and set alignment in global laboratory standardization.


  • Coordinates, coaches and motivates the team, plans and secures the personnel capacity to reach team goals.
  • Executes Human Resource management of the team by using company instruments structurally, such as for absenteeism, acquisition, development and appraisals.
  • Enhances and secures the quality of the team's output and structurally leads and participates in meetings with the team and other managers.
  • Analyses reached goals in relation to the set goals and the overall functioning of the team and reports this to the higher management.
  • Sets department goals based on organizational goals, secures these and takes corrective actions if needed.
  • Ensures the implementation of and working following stated guidelines, standards and methods.
  • Drives continuous improvement (initiates and manage) of processes and employees within the QC-area to improve in safety, quality, service and costs.
  • Contributes to the Global RB network peers, is part of regular global coordination meetings.
  • Is in close contact with QA, operations and other departments as needed to align on planning, resources and priorities.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, food technology or laboratory processing.
  • 5-10 years of (management) experience in a QC or QA position within the food and/or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Good communication skills, verbally and in writing, in English and preferably also Dutch.
  • Good knowledge of compliance regarding GMP, GLP, EHS and other quality systems.
  • Knowledge of raw material sampling, release and stability testing and administration, preferably in a GMP-based production environment.
  • Knowledge of QMS and/or other documentation systems.
  • Statistical knowledge and able to edit clear and concise reports.
  • Contributed to or has lead cross-functional teams operating in a dynamic and outcome-oriented environment.
  • Strong project management- and advisory skills, good problem-solving, statistical- and root-cause analysis skills
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean concepts (YB, GB, BB).
